When/how/why was your studio founded?

Highlow Jewelry was founded in 2012 as an experiment and art practice.

Who or what inspires your process?

Materials are a big inspiration behind the design process. Previous collections have been made from found materials, clay, precious metals, and glass.

Favorite nerd hobby or interest? 

Over quarantine I've become so interested in learning to cook meals from my childhood that my abuela and mom cooked for us. Chiles rellenos, albondoga soup, caldo de pollo, refried beans, homemade corn tortillas, and posole so far!

Curiosity, grace, thoughtfulness

Biggest hurdle you've overcome thus far?

Changing and evolving. Materials inspire me, so when I come across something new that excites me I allow myself to be carried away by it. I don't always know where it's going to go, and sometimes I'm scared by how different it is. But the process is so fun I can't help it! I'm grateful for my long term customers who have been with me through the years.

Are you launching any new products? Or have something exciting you want us to share?

I just launched a new collection of day-to-day pieces called the Día Collection. It involves a lot of materials I always have on hand, but stripped down just to what they are. I am known to make more artful jewelry, but in today's stay-at-home world I have found myself wearing simple staple pieces like just a chain for a necklace or gold wire hoops. They are pieces that are easy to layer with statement jewelry, because those are definitely still a must!
