Who or what inspires your process?

I am really inspired by architecture, interior design, and furniture design. Growing up, my parents always took care of our house really well and admired other old houses. So when I went to college in Chicago I became homesick and thought of all the things that reminded me of home and family and it was the atmosphere of our house, the pieces of furniture that held memories of my childhood, the handcrafted objects that told stories of my family, ultimately the warmth a home brings. This then led me to the historic preservation department at my school (my major was sculpture, but I took a lot of historic preservation classes) and eventually to my first job out of college as a Historic Carpenter. I got to work on big old mansions and it was incredible, they were incredible! The details of a house tell stories and bring up memories of the past. Buildings are a way of keeping the past alive and unraveling it.

Favorite item in your studio?

My Delta Rockwell Lathe. This lathe is ancient, but it works like a charm. It's one of the best lathes I've ever used.

Favorite nerd hobby or interest?

My favorite hobby is skydiving. I'm a skydiver with around 200 jumps currently. I love skydiving so much, it is very grounding (even though you're in the sky haha) and gives you a whole new perspective. It is this huge adrenaline rush followed by complete peacefulness when your parachute goes up and you're floating quietly above the world. It is so much fun and honestly I could go on talking about it for hours...

Figuring it out

Biggest hurdle you've overcome thus far?

My biggest hurdle that I am still overcoming is learning to say "no." I want to say "yes" to projects, family members, and friends, but I've learned the hard way that sometimes when it is something that doesn't benefit me, my business, or my interests then I need to say "no." I need to prioritize making what I want to make and what will help my business grow.

Are you launching any new products? Or have something exciting you want us to share?

Yes! I am actually launching a new collection coming out Sept. 27 @ 6:00pm est. It is going to include a lot of larger designs and pieces that I have been wanting to make for a while now, including large vases, boards, mirrors, table lamps, and nesting tables. There will be a lot of new shapes and hand carved pieces that I am very excited about!
